About the Role

Join our Graduate Program as a Graduate Consultant within our Employment & Expatriate Tax team, starting January 2026!

Our Employment & Expatriate Tax team support clients with their employer obligations, including employment tax compliance and consulting (FBT, superannuation, payroll tax, WorkCover, Pay-As-You-Go Withholding).

The team also support clients in ensuring they pay employees correctly through proactively supporting and building out processes and systems to ensure they get it right!

What you’ll do

Join our Graduate Program as a Graduate Consultant within our Global Expatriate & Employment Taxes team, starting immediately or January 2026!

Our Global Expatriate & Employment Taxes team support Japanese Multinational clients with their employer obligations, including employment tax compliance and consulting (FBT, superannuation, payroll tax, WorkCover, Pay-As-You-Go Withholding) as well as their Japanese inbound expatriate employees’ tax compliance in Australia.

What you’ll do:

As a Global Expatriate & Employment Taxes Graduate at BDO, you can expect to:

  • Attend meetings with Japanese corporate clients and tax briefings for expatriate employees
  • Research projects and draft advice
  • Prepare Australian tax returns for Japanese expatriate employees
  • Review and lodge FBT returns during our compliance period (May and June), including ad hoc FBT compliance throughout the year
  • Be involved in pay compliance projects, including review of various industrial instruments (Awards, Enterprise Agreement) and analysis of payroll data
  • Liaise with various regulators (ATO, state revenue authorities)
  • Assist our national Japan Practice Lead Partner and its various activities (including client seminars, newsletters etc)

Eligibility

To be eligible for our Graduate Program, you will need to: 

  • Be in your final year, or have recently completed an Accounting, Commerce, Finance, Business or other relevant undergraduate or postgraduate degree
  • Possess fluent Japanese (native level) language skills
  • Demonstrate an understanding of Japanese corporate business culture, ideally with experience working in a corporate environment in Japan
  • Be eligible to undertake postgraduate study (CA/CPA, CFA)
  • Be available to start immediately or January 2026.
