College Values
Charlton is a rural town serving a farming community situated 240 km north-west of Melbourne and 110 km north- west of Bendigo. The township is located on the Calder Highway and the Avoca River and supported by a full range of services and facilities including a hospital, doctor, banking, sporting and recreational opportunities. The school family occupations index (SFO) is 0.43 and has remained fairly consistent.
Charlton College has extensive grounds, multi-purpose paved areas, sporting fields and extensive buildings. The College¿s physical facilities include a Science and Language Centre and a Primary School for the C21 Neighbourhood and Library building.
Charlton College is a Foundation to Year 12 school with responsibility for managing the North Central Trade Training Centre, (NCTTC) and the Flexible Learning Operations, (FLO) program. The school has a student population of 130 drawn from farming and town areas.
The school has close associations with the other Cluster schools and schools in the North Central Network as well as a close association with the North Central LLEN. The Cluster employs Careers Education coordinators, (formerly MIPs) who work across the seven (7) Cluster schools, and who work closely with the LLEN.
Charlton College administers the NCTTC on behalf of the seven schools that make up this cluster. The NCTTC offers Vic Curriculum technology subjects to all cluster schools in years 9-10 and VET programs. In 2024 there were 170 VET students undertaking a range of 12 programs. The College curriculum offerings are expanded by cooperation between schools in the North Central Cluster through video conferencing links.
The College consistently ranks among the top government schools in VCE results.
Victorian curriculum operates across years P-10. Chinese is the language program provided by the College. The College operates three sub-sub schools for administrative purposes, F-6, 7-9 and 10-12. A comprehensive curriculum is offered from years 7-12, including VCE/VM and VET options.
SC1 Demonstrated knowledge of the relevant curriculum, including the capacity to incorporate the teaching of literacy and numeracy skills. Demonstrated capacity to respond to student learning needs.
SC2 Demonstrated capacity to implement high impact teaching strategies, guided by how students learn, and evaluate the impact of learning and teaching programs on student learning growth.
SC3 Demonstrated capacity to monitor and assess student learning. Demonstrated capacity to use data to inform teaching practice and to provide feedback on student learning growth and achievement to students and parents.
SC4 Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated capacity to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with students, parents, colleagues and the broader school community to support student learning, wellbeing and engagement.
SC5 Demonstrated behaviours and attitudes consistent with Department values. Demonstrated capacity to reflect upon practice and engage in professional learning to continually improve the quality of teaching.
